A Habersham County woman was arrested on a charge of arson after she allegedly lit a fire at a home in Alto Saturday.

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy responded to a report of a possible arson in progress at a home on Yonah Post Road. Upon arrival, the deputy reportedly observed a burnt front door mat with burnt articles on top of the door mat, as well as gas next to the front door with a pour spot at the front door.

The articles with the burnt articles were still warm to the touch when the deputy arrived, according to an incident report from HCSO.

Courtney Plum, 37, stated to the deputy that she was upset and lit a lighter next to a rug that had gas on it. She claimed she immediately put out the fire and only caused damage to the rug.

Plum was arrested and taken to the Habersham County Detention Center.
