Forsyth County man charged with assault of disabled wife

By B.J. Williams
A Forsyth County man remains in jail with no bond after an alleged attack on his disabled wife.

Cpl. Doug Rainwater with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said Joseph Mark Espenship, 61, was arrested late Sunday night at a residence on Walnut Mill Landing in the northern part of the county.

Espenship's 66-year-old wife, who is wheelchair bound, called authorities around 10 p.m. to report her husband had attacked her as she lay in bed. Rainwater said she suffered a broken nose and other injuries. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Rainwater said alcohol played a part in the alleged assault. He said it appeared the attack was unprovoked.

Espenship is charged with aggravated battery and cruelty to a person 65 years or older.
