Melbourne "Mel" Earl Flesner, 78
Hillside Memorial Chapel announces the death of Melbourne "Mel" Earl Flesner age 78, of Clarkesville. Mr. Flesner passed away Monday, July 2, 2007 following an extended illness.
Born in Stillwater, Oklahoma on April 19, 1929, Mr. Flesner was the son of the late George and Mabel Garrett Flesner. He attended Oklahoma A & M and in 1949 he won a Silver Metal In the National Wrestling Tournament. Mr. Flesner was also an All State Football Athlete. Mr. Flesner was the Vice President of Otis Elevator Company until his retirement in 1987. After retiring to Clarkesville, Georgia, Mr. Flesner served 16 years on the Clarkesville City Council. Mel was instrumental in the completion many projects within the city including the Mauldin House restoration. Mr. Flesner was a member of Clarkesville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife Mary Lee Brand Flesner of Clarkesville, daughter Melanie Flesner Birk of Santa Fe, New Mexico, sons Tom Flesner of Houston, Texas and John Flesner of Lawrenceville, brother Lester Flesner of Pendleton, South Carolina, sisters Eileen Cox of Duncan, Oklahoma and Juanita Hoftler of Tulsa, Oklahoma, as well as seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
