Main Street Gainesville has been dubbed the “Downtown of the Year” for 2025 at the Georgia Downtown Conference.

“It truly is an honor,” Main Street Manager Nicole Parham said. “We have been so grateful … it goes way before my time, 20 years ago they were dreaming about what they could do in the Midland side of town.”

Parham also mentioned that Doug Ivester won the Premier New Development Award for the Renaissance Building in downtown Gainesville.

“The Renaissance Building has been such a huge part of the impact,” Parham said. “To have so many visionaries come up with an idea to have both the combination of the retail restaurant on the first floor, to really have that arts and entertainment district feel in our downtown.”

The Downtown of the Year is the highest recognition given by the Georgia Downtown Association (GDA).

The award was presented Wednesday night in the same week the City of Gainesville is hosting the GDA conference.

The award is presented to a community that sets a “high bar for excellence” and also “serves as an inspiring model for others across the state of Georgia.”

“There’s always things to continue to grow, to continue to improve, and I think there’s still a lot more to come,” Parham said.
