Starting Wednesday night the intersection at Barber Creek Road and State Route 316 will shut down.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced that the closure is to allow for the construction of a new bridge, ramps, and roundabouts.

Drivers will not be able to turn onto Barber Creek Road from the highway or access the highway from either side of Barber Creek Road throughout the duration of the construction, with an expected completion date of early 2027.

SR 316 will remain open throughout the project and there is no through-lane restriction with the change.

Beginning Wednesday, heavy construction equipment and temporary concrete barriers will be in the median along the shoulders of SR 316 and Barber Creek Road.

GDOT recommends SR 53/Hog Mountain Road south to SR 211/Bethlehem Road for those traveling south of SR 316 from Barber Creek Road.

Motorists traveling north of SR 316 should take SR 211/Bethlehem Road south to U.S. 78/Atlanta Highway and then follow it to Barber Creek Road.

Detour route signs will be in place to guide drivers in the area.

GDOT reminds drivers to reduce speed and stay alert when traveling through work zones.

The project is a part of a GDOT's series of improvements along SR 316 from SR 20 in Gwinnett County to SR 10 in Athens.
