A Toccoa man has been sentenced to 60 years by the Superior Court of Stephens County following a three-day trial in relation to the shooting of three individuals at two convenience stores.
Antuan Demetrius Prather, 32, was convicted of three counts of aggravated assault and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
According to a press release from the Mountian Judicial Circuit, the trial was held before Hon. B. Chan Caudell from March 13 to March 15. The State of Georgia was represented by Chief Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Boykin, along with Assistant District Attorney Rebecca James.
Prather shot an individual on Aug. 1, 2021, who was unknown to him at Buddy’s Kwik Stop on Big A Road. He then fled the scene and an hour later, he shot two individuals who were working at Tony’s General Store on Hwy 123. He was apprehended shortly after the second shooting by the Toccoa Police Department.
The case was handled by Special Agent Cliff Tippens of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and assisted by the Toccoa Police Department and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.
Prather was sentenced to 60 years to serve in the state penal system, followed by 10 years on probation.
