High school students interested in touring Washington D.C may apply now through January 31, 2024.
The tour is an all-expense paid trip managed by Jackson EMC and sponsored by the nation’s electric cooperatives. Planned for June 14 until June 21 of 2024, applications for interested students are now open.
A total of four students each year get the chance to go on this weeklong intensive tour made to build leadership skills and educate young minds about the cooperative business model. Activities done while on tour include visiting national monuments, a Sunset Parade at Iwo Jima Statue, a cruise on the Potomac River, and meeting the Georgia congressional delegation.
To be eligible applicants must be current high school sophomores or juniors who have demonstrated leadership potential, academic success, and community service. Students may also be nominated by their high school guidance counselor or teacher.
Finalists will undergo interviews with a panel of business, community, and university leaders on February 19, 2024 to be chosen as one of the four to receive the Washington Youth Tour leadership experience.
