Cherokee Bluff used a stifling defense, forced a key fumble and hauled in two interceptions to hold off East Forsyth last week. The win also kept the Bears in the playoff hunt. It wasn't the outcome we expected, although we knew it could be a defensive battle, and it was just that. That game was just one that drew interest last week.

Flowery Branch made a statement with a massive 48-0 win over Winder-Barrow at home last week. Dawson County's offense came alive in a 42-7 win over Pickens in Jasper. North Hall gave up two touchdowns late to fall to Madison County, and White County allowed Wesleyan to score late to fall in Norcross.

CHECK OUT THE REGION STANDINGS HERE.

Week 9 will once again bring drama, interesting finishes and more movement in the region standings across the area, and three of those showdowns are on the Jacobs Media airwaves and streaming live on AccessWDUN.com.

Flowery Branch at Jefferson –. Well, look what we have here ... the Falcons with a shot to take another step up in the Region 8-5A standings. Three weeks ago, Flowery Branch's path wasn't looking too promising. After losing in double overtime to Eastside, the Falcons were behind the eight ball, facing a bigger and favored Clarke Central team. That didn't stop the Falcons from taking one from the Gladiators in the last minute to catapult themselves back into the playoff race. Last week, they made a statement in a 48-0 win over Winder-Barrow, setting up a battle for first in the region. However, after the shutout win on Friday, the Falcons will face a massive test against No. 4 Jefferson. The Dragons have only been getting stronger each and are coming off a bye week. Undoubtedly, the undefeated Dragons will be ready to defend their home turf on Friday. You can listen to the game on WDUN AM 550 (Click to listen live).

Chestatee at North Hall – North Hall is coming off their toughest loss of the season. Forget the game against No. 2 North Oconee two weeks ago; the loss to Madison County hurt worse for the Trojans. After leading 35-34 in the second half, the game looked as if it would come down to the last play. However, the Red Raiders took advantage of the North Hall mistakes to pull away and get the win. With the loss, the Trojans are hanging on to the fourth seed, making Friday's game against rival Chestatee even bigger. As for the War Eagles, they are desperate for a win, and knocking off their biggest rival to push them out of the top four would make the folks in Sardis really happy. You can hear the game on FM 102.9 WDUN (Click to listen live).

Gainesville at Habersham Central – The Red Elephants are in complete control of their destiny, and that shouldn't change on Friday in Mt. Airy. No. 1 Gainesville continues to jell and get better as a whole, and with a week off to work on those little things, they should be ready to roll on Friday. However, Habersham Central is fighting for a playoff spot. The Raiders will no doubt give Gainesville their best shot, but will it be enough against the firey Red Elephants? The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click to listen live).
