Part of the Hall County School District's 10-year facilities plan, which was approved in August 2019, is the replacement of seven aging elementary schools with four brand new buildings.

Architects have been working on design and layout for the first school, and members of the Hall County Board of Education got a first look at a drawing at a work session this past week.

"Elementary school replacement number one is going to be on the Ramsey Road property along [Georgia] 365 and it will replace the current White Sulphur Elementary and Riverbend Elementary," said District Superintendent Will Schofield. "The architects are getting close to [finalizing] the plans...we showed those to the board and they were very excited."

The new school is expected to open in time for the 2023 school year.

The other elementary schools that will be replaced and consolidated onto three new campuses are McEver, Myers, Oakwood, Tadmore and World Language Academy Primary. Some of the school buildings that are being replaced are more than 60-years-old and renovation expenses would far outweigh construction of new facilities, according to assessments made in the months leading up to approval of the new facilities plan.

All items on the facilities plan are being funded by an ESPLOST extension and a bond referendum approved on June 9, 2020.
