Sisu Integrated Early Learning is currently accepting nominations for the third annual Nancy Copper Sisu Spark Award.
Each year, the award recognizes a community member who has demonstrated their sisu- a Finnish concept for grit or determination.
According to a press release from Sisu, the award was first introduced in 2018. In 2019, the award was renamed for former Sisu Integrated Early Learning board member Nancy Copper, who showed her own sisu during a cancer trial.
The 2019 award went to two candidates- Addi Bales and DeeAnn Sams. Bales has persevered through medical treatment, while Sams is described as a hardworking mom and wife.
Anyone who lives in the North Georgia region can be nominated for the award. The application includes four questions that highlight how and why the nominee has demonstrated sisu, as well as a recommendation letter. Applications are due October 30.
The award winner will be determined by the Sisu Spark Award Committee. The award will be presented at Sisu's virtual Seasons of Sisu fundraiser on November 13, 2020.
Sisu Integrated Early Learning is an early intervention school that serves children ages six weeks to six years old. The school provides an inclusive environment for educational, therapeutic, nursing and family support services.
