Charles Baker has another four years ahead of him as the Hall County Clerk of Courts following the primary election Tuesday night.
Baker brought in 58 percent of the total vote, defeating challengers Brad Rounds, Jennifer Gibbs and Laura Stiner.
While his challengers have addressed the need for several improvements within the Clerk’s office, Baker has remained adamant that his over 40 years of experience in the office is enough for another term.
A couple of Baker’s opponents also questioned his decision to seek re-election following his announcement that he would not late last year.
Baker has responded to those comments stating that he felt like he had more to offer to the office if re-elected.
Baker has served as Clerk of Courts for the past 11 years, serving as Chief Deputy Clerk for seven years prior to that. In addition, he has worked in various divisions of the Clerk of Courts office, including operations of the criminal court, civil court, real estate and personal property, jury management and traffic bureau.
Since Baker secured more than 50 percent of the vote in the primary, no runoff will be necessary in August. Baker faces no opposition in the November general election.
Additional absentee ballots were being calculated overnight by the Hall County Elections Office. The additional absentee votes are not expected to change the outcome of the election, but please check back in the morning for complete numbers.
