Despite rain wreaking havoc with the schedule over the first three weeks of the season, teams have managed to squeeze a few games in between the raindrops, including some important region tilts.

Two area teams are ranked No. 1 through the Georgia Dugout Club's March 7 rankings. Buford sits atop Class 5A with two-time defending state champion and fellow Region 8-5A foe Loganville right behind in second. North Hall holds the top spot for a third straight week in Class 3A.

In Class 4A, Flowery Branch is fourth and is one of four Region 7-4A teams occupying the top five spots. Blessed Trinity sits atop the rankings with Marist at No. 2 and Denmark fifth.

Also in Class 3A, Dawson County and Cherokee Bluff received votes.

In Class 2A, Banks County has joined the rankings at No. 10 with fellow Region 8-2A foe Elbert County sitting sixth. Union County also got a mention.

In Class A-Public, Commerce holds the No. 6 spot while in Class A Private Lakeview Academy sits eighth.

It's too early to see which teams may be the surprise of the season, but region schedules for most northeast Georgia regions will be in full swing in the coming weeks. However, there are several monster series set to begin on Monday that could, in the end, decide top seedings for the playoffs.

North Hall and Greater Atlanta Christian, which dropped out of the rankings this week, will stage a huge three-game series in Region 7-3A beginning on Monday at Lynn Cottrell Field. The Spartans currently sit in first place in the region standings with the Trojans tied for second with Cherokee Bluff. The Bears and Dawson County open a three-game series in Flowery Branch.

In Region 7-4A, Marist and Flowery Branch open a home-and-home series on Wednesday at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex.

In Region 8-2A, Banks County and Union County both hit the road for doubleheaders on Friday.
