Wrestling: Commerce claims 7th straight Class A Traditionals crown; North Hall, Buford finish 2nd

MACON — A month after seeing their six-year run as Class A Dual State champions come to an end against Trion, Commerce turned the tables in the Traditionals nipping the Bulldogs 159 to 157.5 to capture their seventh consecutive Traditionals title.

The Tigers trailed after the first day on Thursday but put on a strong performance over the weekend to catch and then hold off Trion.

For other area teams in Class A, Riverside Military Academy finished 11th with 43.5 points and Towns County was placed 30th with 10 points.

North Hall’s early lead in Class 3A could not hold up as Sonoraville claimed its second straight Traditionals crown holding the Trojans 194.5 to 189.5 on Saturday. However, Lumpkin County had a strong weekend taking third with 117 points. Jefferson was fifth with 104.5 points and Jackson County also cracked the top 10 with 66.5 points. Cherokee Bluff finished 16th and East hall 23rd in Class 3A.

In Class 5A, Buford also finished as runners-up with 179 points. Woodland-Cartersville  won its second straight title with 210 points. Johnson finished 33rd.

In Class 2A, Banks County had a solid showing taking fourth with 94 points. Chattooga won the title amassing 190.5 points. Rabun County finished 27th and Union County 33rd.

In Class 4A, Flowery Branch finished seventh with 86 points with White County 12th, Chestatee 17th, and West Hall 34th for other area teams. Woodward Academy won its second straight title with 177 points.

And in Class 6A, Habersham Central finished 20th with 29 points. Gainesville was 31st with 7 points.
