A former Gainesville resident who is a Congressional Medal of Honor winner is scheduled to appear in a "patriotic video" scheduled to air during pre-game Super Bowl coverage next Sunday.

That's according to an Asheville, North Carolina, television station.

Kyle Carpenter, now medically retired from the Marines, was badly injured in 2010 in Afghanistan when he threw himself between a grenade and a fellow Marine, an act that saved a fellow Marine's life.

Carpenter received the Medal of Honor for his actions from then-President Barack Obama in 2014. And, as AccessWDUN reported a few weeks ago, he has now written a book about his wartime experiences.

Though he eventually moved to South Carolina where he finished high school, Carpenter spent part of his childhood in Gainesville. Friends recalled in an earlier story that he attended McEver Elementary School and West Hall Middle School as well as First Baptist Church on Green Street.

According to WLOS-TV, Carpenter's part of the ad was filmed on the courthouse steps and in a city park in Sylva, North Carolina.
