Angela Middleton is the winner of this year's Drum Major for Justice Award, presented each year by the Newtown Florist Club in conjunction with Gainesville's Martin Luther King, Jr., Day observance.

Middleton was cited for her "dedication and commitment to protecting the right to vote for people of color and improving the quality of life for disenfranchised communities," according to the inscription on the plaque that was presented to her.

Long active in the local Democratic Party, Middleton ran an unsuccessful campaign for a seat on the Hall County Board of Commissioners in 2016.
