A Gainesville man has been charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery for a Sunday night shooting at a homeless camp off Atlanta Highway and Westside Drive.

Hall County Sheriff's Department spokesman Derreck Booth identified the suspect as Necko Roman Jackson, 41. He said Jackson was arrested around 10:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28 at a residence in the 1000 block of East Ridge Road.

"In addition, Jackson is charged with obstruction for attempting to flee on foot while deputies were making the arrest," Booth said in a Tuesday morning statement.

For now, Jackson is being held without bond in the Hall County Jail.

The victim in the incident, a 41-year-old man, was shot in the jaw. He remains hospitalized at Grady Hospital in Atlanta. Booth said detectives are still searching for relatives before they release his name.

Detectives are still working to determine what led to the shooting.
