Gainesville Police have charged a man in connection to a shooting at an area McDonald's last week.

The shooting occurred in the parking lot of the restaurant on Thompson Bridge Road Thursday following a dispute inside the restaurant between patrons. Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said in a media release that the patrons left the restaurant and an argument ensued in the parking lot; that's when the firearm was accidentally fired from the pocket of Lawrence Vaughn, 56.

The round struck the asphalt and no one was hurt. Vaughn left the scene.

Holbrook said Vaughn is in the Hall County Jail, facing reckless conduct and simple battery charges.

"Although fortunate that no injuries were sustained, this is a prime example of firearm safety," Holbrook said in the media release. "All individuals who carry a firearm should be well-versed on the laws and regulations regarding carrying a firearm."
