Visitors to downtown Sugar Hill may soon be able to enjoy an adult beverage while strolling through downtown, if city council on Monday approves the creation of a new "entertainment district."
The new district (see map) would cover much of the downtown area, including The Bowl, and so long as visitors are within the boundary, it would be legal to possess and alcoholic beverage in public.
Under current rules, any alcohol beverages sold at a restaurant or bar must be consumed inside the premises, but with the establishment of an entertainment district, patrons could purchase a "to-go" drink from a venue.
The move, it can be safely assumed, would bring extra business to the establishments in the area, especially during large events.
The ordinance will be brought for a final vote Monday, two months after city leaders also explored an idea to allow for "BYOB" (bring your own beer) at city events.
The only restriction, said Paul Radford, city manager at the time, is a slight one: no glass.
