A Winder woman has been charged in a hit-and-run incident that left a 66-year-old Statham man dead Monday morning.

Sandy Wilson, 42, allegedly drove off of Jefferson Road at 8:11 a.m., hitting and killing Marvin Barnes and his dog, according to a statement from Barrow County Sheriff's Maj. Ryan Sears.

Warrants have been taken out for Wilson's arrest on charges of first-degree vehicular homicide, felony hit-and-run, reckless driving, failure to report an accident, driving too fast for conditions, failure to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of the road and animal cruelty.

"The sheriff's office is actively searching for Wilson, and her location is unknown at this time," said Sears.

The car involved in the hit-and-run was located the day of the accident, not far from the crime scene, according to Sears.

Anybody with information on Wilson's whereabouts is asked to call the Barrow County Sheriff's Office at (770) 307-7669, where callers can remain anonymous if they choose.
