A roughly 600-foot sidewalk connection between George Pierce Park and the Ruby Forest neighborhood in Suwanee is officially cleared to start construction, officials said.
The project, first approved in Oct. 2016, will connect the back part of the neighborhood with the park, according to Marty Allen, city manager.
City council approved the final phase of the plan — a required easement from the neighborhood homeowner's association — last week.
If the project continues on schedule, it could be completed as early as spring 2018.
"What we'll be constructing is a connection ... what it would entail is a sidewalk, some stairs," said Allen.
Officials had to jump through a few hoops to bring the plan to fruition, including executing an inter-governmental agreement with Gwinnett County to build the connection on county property, and obtaining the easement from the HOA.
Gwinnett commissioners approved the inter-governmental agreement over the summer, according to county documents.
The total project is expected to cost $17,270.
