GAINESVILLE — The Class 7A golf championships will get under way Monday at Chattahoochee Golf Course, and host Gainesville figures to be right in the mix.

The two-day event will tee off beginning at 9 a.m.

The Red Elephants finished fourth in 7A in 2021 and have had strong showings at their home course in 2022.

They finished second at the Big Red Shootout in March in perhaps the deepest field in the history of the event. The young Red Elephants finished behind only defending Class 7A champion Milton that day and was led by freshman Henry Kopydlowski, who also took second in the individual meet.

Gainesville will begin its quest for its first golf title since 2013 when the Red Elephants captured the Class 5A crown. They won the 2012 Class 3A title the year before.
