BUFORD — Buford's scheduled football game with International School of Broward (Fla.), Friday night has been cancelled because of Hurricane Irma.

According to published reports, the Florida High School Athletic Association called off all athletic events statewide because of the storm.

Buford Athletic Director Dexter Wood said there wasn't much they could do about schedule flexibility.

"The school gave us a heads-up on Tuesday that it might happen but it was confirmed (Wednesday)," Wood said. "We did offer accommodations to come a day early and stay a day later if they needed it but when the state called things off there wasn't much we could do."

Now the Wolves, who were off last week, will be forced to take a second consecutive bye week into next week's showdown with South Carolina power South Pointe out of Rock Hill.

"I doesn't happen very often and it can be tough on the players because you get out of game shape," Wood said. "By the time we get back to playing, some teams will already have played five games. We've only played twice so far."
