Sissy Elliott, a teacher at Centennial Arts Academy, is the Gainesville City School System Teacher of the Year.
Among those congratulating Elliott was Supt. Jeremy Williams, who surprised her with a special visit.
Elliott will now compete for state Teacher of the Year honors.
Cindy Grier was named Hall County Teacher of the Year earlier this month.
