GAINESVILLE — Jonathan Gettys, the standout pitcher that helped lead Gainesville High baseball to a Class AAAAA state runner-up finish in 2015, is no longer part of the Red Elephants team due to personal reasons.

"Jonathan is no longer part of the team," Gainesville Athletic Director Billy Kirk said Tuesday. "It's unfortunate. However, we're still in the middle of a season and we're moving on as a program."

Gettys, who signed with LSU earlier this season, last appeared for Gainesville (17-4, 14-2 Region 8-AAAAA) last week against Winder-Barrow. He was forced to leave that game in the first inning after suffering an injury.

Gainesville's next game will be Wednesday against Lanier in Sugar Hill in a key Region 8-AAAAA contest.

Jonathan Gettys pitches for Gainesville in a game earlier this season.
