EVANS — The deciding Game 3 of the Gainesville-Greenbrier Class AAAAA championship series has been postponed due to repeated inclement weather.

The game was originally supposed to start at 5 p.m. Tuesday but a 15-minute downpour at Greenbrier High School at 4 p.m. forced the game to be pushed back. The game was initially pushed back to 6 p.m. and then 8 p.m. before officials decided to call it for the day.

The game has been rescheduled for noon Wednesday.

Gainesville won Game 1 of the series, 6-2, while Greenbrier won Game 2, 7-3, to send the series to a third game.

Gainesville coach Jeremy Kemp said it has been tough waiting around.

"It's definitely frustrasting to have to sit around all day and wait," Kemp said. "I think our guys are handling it okay. But they are antsy to play, for sure."

The extra day may play in the Red Elephants favor. Kemp did not divulge if he had a starter in mind for Wednesday but an extra day of rest could make Game 1 winner Jonathan Gettys available again. Pitchers are allowed to pitch 14 innings in a week. He tossed a seven-inning complete game on Monday.

"We don't know who we'll start. We won't really look at that until we get to the park," Kemp said. "But an extra day does help."

According to The Weather Channel there is 50 percent chance of rain in the Evans area at noon.

Gainesville will prepare to play Game 3 of its Class AAAAA championship series on Wednesday in Evans.
