Lanierland: East Hall, Lakeview boys get consolation wins

GAINESVILLE -- East Hall used 13-0 run to end the third quarter en route to an 82-60 win over Flowery Branch Thursday in the boys consolation round of the Lanierland Tournament at Gainesville High.

The game was tight throughout the first half with neither team leading by more than five points with the Vikings taking a 30-27 lead into halftime. But East Hall's defense forced five straight turnovers to spark the run to take a 59-38 lead into the fourth quarter.

Bryan Edwards poured in 20 points to lead East Hall. Hayden Chapman added 15, including four 3-pointers, as 13 different players scored for the Vikings.

Nick Wayne led Flowery Branch with 20 points Jamaad Stephens had 11 and Cody Dewing nine for the Falcons.

East Hall next will take on Lakeview Academy in the fifth place game Saturday at noon at the North Hall gym.

The Lions used a 15-1 first half run to take control and held on in the second half for the win.

Austin Montgomery led the way for Lakeview with 31 points, and now is just seven points shy of 1,000 for his career.

The Lions led just 20-19 late in the first quarter when Trevor Price sparked the run with a steal and layup. They would take a 34-20 lead before the War Eagles began to chip away.

Chestatee would close out the first half with a 13-7 run to pull within 41-33 at halftime. The War Eagles got within 50-43 midway through the third quarter and then 68-61 early in the fourth quarter.

But Lakeview went on an 11-3 run, powered by a thunderous dunk from Montgomery, to take a 79-64 lead with just under three minutes left in the game.

Price would finish with 15 points for Lakeview.

Chestatee was led by Aaron Manders with 22 points. Kelley Arthur had nine points for the War Eagles.
