It’s already Week 4 of the 2025 season, which means it’s time to talk playoffs.
Not really, but that didn’t stop the Maxwell Ratings from releasing it’s first way-to-early-playoff-predictions this week.
The most interesting thing to come out of that for northeast Georgia area teams is that Rabun County, which is 21st in the most recent Class A Division 1 rating, is projected to be the overall No. 1 seed in the Class A D1 playoffs.
The Wildcats are no strangers to high rankings and deep playoff runs over the past 10 or 12 years. But the Maxwell Ratings is giving them more attention than they probably care to have this early in the season. They will have a climb to get to No. 1 from where they are now, but they have the talent to do it.
So, where are teams in the one rating system that WILL be used once playoff time rolls around? The GHSA Postseason Rankings is released every week and will be used for Classes 3A and below to determine playoff seedings. It is not used for Classes 4A and above but the GHSA does show those as well.
So, where are the northeast Georgia area teams situated in the latest PSR? Even though you didn’t really ask, ye shall receive:
In Class 6A, Buford is 4th and North Forsyth is 28th. In Class 5A, Jackson County is 5th, Gainesville is 13th, and Habersham Central is 20th.
In Class 4A, Flowery Branch is 17th and East Forsyth is 18th. Interestingly enough, defending state champion North Oconee is 14th.
In Class 3A, both northeast Georgia regions (6-3A and 8-3A) are well represented. Pickens (6-3A) is the top-ranked team overall with Jefferson (8-3A) third, North Hall (6-3A) fourth, and Bluff (8-3A) ninth. Monroe Area (8-3A) is 19th, East Hall (8-3A) is 26th, Chestatee (6-3A) 27th, and Lumpkin (6-3A) 28th.
In Class 2A, East Jackson is 16th. In Class A D1, Rabun County is just 21st after the first three weeks.
