East Jackson High School has been evacuated amid an apparent bomb threat.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office shared an email sent from the school to parents on its social media page Tuesday afternoon. The email says the students and staff were evacuated to the school's football stadium.

"We have been made aware of a written bomb threat made toward the safety of our school building," the email said. "Our school system is working alongside the Jackson County Sheriff's Office to investigate the threat."

The screenshot of the email posted by the sheriff's office indicated it was sent to parents at 1:35 p.m. Tuesday. The sheriff's office added that they are searching the school for any potential explosives.

"We currently have 7 bomb dog teams deployed throughout the entire school," the sheriff's office said in a social media post just after 2:45 p.m. Tuesday.

School officials said afternoon dismissal was being conducted from the stadium, with students who drive their own vehicles being free to leave as of 1:35 p.m. and the car rider line being relocated to the stadium and students being escorted to their buses.

"All after school activities for our school have been cancelled for today," the email from the school said.
