A Tennessee man was arrested on multiple charges after he reportedly was found traveling at a high rate of speed in Habersham County with unauthorized emergency lights activated late Monday night.
Rabun County dispatchers notified the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office to be on the lookout for a yellow Ford Mustang with flashing red and blue lights that was traveling south on U.S. 441/Ga. 15 at a high rate of speed towards the area.
Habersham County deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle about 11:45 p.m. near the Tom Arrendale Interchange.
The driver, identified as 55-year-old John Ross Vankouwenberg of Piney Flats, TN, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm or knife during certain crimes, driving under the influence refusal, possession of an open alcohol container, and unauthorized use of blue lights.
Vankouwenberg remained in the Habersham County Detention Center as of last report.
