On Friday, a teacher at Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy discovered a boy had brought a small pocketknife to school, but there was no indication he intended to cause harm.
The teacher noticed that another student appeared concerned about something that a boy had in his backpack.
This then prompted a search, during which a small pocketknife was discovered inside of the bookbag which was then reported to Principal Wesley Roach.
It was also reported that the student had not shown the knife to anyone.
However, once the teacher retrieved it from the bookbag, a couple of other boys noticed the knife.
Roach investigated the incident and stated in an email to the parents that “the student had not made any threats nor demonstrated any threatening behaviors and there was no indication that the student had any intent to use the knife or to do harm to others.”
The student's parent was contacted and appropriate discipline was assigned to the student for bringing the pocketknife to school.
The details on that punishment are unknown.
Principal Roach went on to say in the email to parents, “You can be confident that the matter has been properly addressed and that the safety of our students and staff is of paramount importance to us. We want our parents to be assured that we are taking appropriate measures to help ensure the safety of our students.”
