Fire officials in Barrow County are looking to find what triggered an insulation product fire in a local warehouse.
Barrow County Fire Department (BCFD) Publc Information Officer Lt. Shawne Gum said in a press release that their crews were called to a structure fire Tuesday evening at around 6:50 p.m at the Johns Manville insulation manufacturing facility in the area of Bankhead Highway. Upon arrival, officials found insulation product had caught fire.
Gum said the cause for the fire is still unknown, but that all employees, firefighters and building occupants were accounted for and evacuated. BCFD crews stayed on scene during the night to remove insulation debris from the structure, following complete knockdown of the fire.
Barrow County Fire Chief Brett Skinner commended the rapid and effective response of all personnel involved, saying, “I want to thank our team for their professionalism and speed in containing the fire. I’d like to offer a special thanks to the Winder Fire Department, Oconee County Fire Rescue, and Athens-Clarke County Fire Department for their timely mutual aid and support, and to West Jackson Fire Department for being on standby to handle any other calls that came in during our response.”
