As cities across Northeast Georgia prepare for November municipal elections, one Habersham County city is re-opening qualifying for one of its public offices after no one qualified for it.
The Habersham County Elections and Voter Registration Department said no one qualified for the Ward 2 Cornelia City Commission seat, and qualifying for the seat has been reopened. Those who wish to qualify may do so either Monday or Tuesday.
The seat is being left vacant by long-time City Commissioner Janice Griggs, who announced earlier this year that she would not seek re-election. Those who wish to qualify can do so at the Habersham County Elections and Voter Registration Office in the Habersham County Shopping Center off of U.S. 441 in Cornelia.
