A South Carolina Man was arrested Friday night after he fled from deputies and led them on a chase in Hart County.
The Hart County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were conducting a safety check at the new four-way stop on Lavonia Highway at the Junction of 77 Road and Providence Church Road when a white Honda Ridgeline fled from the intersection.
Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled north on Providence Church Road and then onto I-85 northbound toward South Carolina.
Deputies were preparing to end the pursuit near the state line bridge when the suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle.
Deputies arrested the suspect, Michael Gibert, 53, of Anderson, SC.
Only minor damage occurred, and no injuries were reported.
Gibert faces charges of felony fleeing, DUI, suspended license, reckless driving, criminal attempt to possess marijuana, open container, speeding and failure to stop at a stop sign.
Gibert was also wanted on warrants out of both Hart County and Anderson County, SC. He was taken to the Hart County Jail.
