What could often appear as a normal traffic stop proved to be anything but that in Franklin County early Friday, where a known sex offender from the state of Idaho was found to have a missing juvenile with him in his car.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office press release on Friday said that during the early morning hours, one of their deputies was alerted by a Flock Safety camera to a vehicle connected to a missing person. A traffic stop was conducted and deputies located 25-year-old Caelen Dennis, a missing adult from Idaho. Mr. Dennis is also a registered sex offender out of Nampa, Idaho and is prohibited from having contact with minor children.
The media post added that inside the vehicle, deputies additionally discovered a missing juvenile from Washington. The juvenile’s name is being withheld due to their age.
Franklin County deputies detained Dennis, arrested him, and transported him to the Franklin County Detention Center early Friday. The Idaho Sex Offender Registry lists that Dennis was charged and later convicted in 2023 of lewd conduct with a minor child under the age of 16.
Sheriff Scott Andrews added a reminder in the Frankin County social media post that, "This incident highlights the importance of parents closely monitoring their children’s online activity and social media interactions to help keep them safe."
