GAINESVILLE – East Forsyth hit a field goal after blocking Dawson County's field goal attempt in overtime to knock off the Tigers, 19-16, Friday night.
East Forsyth scored first on a Brooks Smallwood 15-yard rushing touchdown to take a 7-0 lead. Dawson's Jacob Felkai hit a 25-yard field goal to answer and make the score 7-3 at the break.
Smallwood found the endzone again in the second half, this time on an 81-yard catch from Chase Rhoads before Jony Aguilera hit a 29-yard field goal. Felkai nailed a 28-yard field goal before Gunnar Weaver trimmed the lead down to 16-13 with a score from two yards out.
After Felkai tied the game up with less than a minute to go on a 33-yard field goal, the Tigers had their field goal attempt blocked in overtime, setting up Aguilera to hit the 26-yard chip shot to win the game.
Rhoads finished the day 12-for-21 for 191 yards passing for the Broncos. Weaver was 21-of-31 for 137 yards passing for the Tigers, adding 29 rushing yards and a score.
The Broncos continue their homestand next week with a matchup against Winder-Barrow. Dawson County will be back on the road at East Jackson next Friday.
