A Thursday night crash in Franklin County along I-85 northbound left one driver with serious injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol reported that troopers in Hartwell responded to a crash scene at around 9:40 p.m. near mile marker 158.

Preliminary details in the investigation revealed a 2012 GMC Yukon, and a 2018 Volvo were traveling north on the roadway in the right lane. At the same time, a 2022 Freightliner was parked on the right shoulder of I-85 due to a blown tire.

The driver of the Yukon attempted to pass the 2018 Volvo in the emergency lane and struck the rear of the Freightliner with its front. Upon impact, the Yukon rotated clockwise, and partially entered the right lane of I-85.

The 2018 Volvo struck the rear of the Yukon with a trailer it was pulling and continued northbound striking the driver's side of the 2022 Freightliner.

The driver of the Yukon was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the 2022 Freightliner and 2018 Volvo were not injured.

Both lanes of the northbound roadway were closed for just over three hours during the crash investigation.

GSP said the investigation is ongoing, and charges will be forthcoming.
