The State Transportation Board (STB) for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has new leadership following an appointment at Thursday’s meeting.

Jamie Boswell was elected chair of the STB by board members, and he was formerly the vice chair. Boswell serves as the 10th Congressional District’s representative for the STB.

The 10th District covers Athens-Clarke, Barrow, Elbert, Franklin, Gwinnett, Hart, and Madison Counties in the northeast Georgia region.

It also encompasses Butts, Greene, Hancock, Henry, Jasper, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Putman, Taliaferro, Walton, and Wilkes Counties.

Boswell is a graduate of the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business with a major in real estate. He’s also the president and owner of the Boswell Group based out of Athens that does insurance, real estate, and appraisals.

Boswell was first elected to the 14-member STB in 2013.

Joining Boswell is Vice Chair Dennis McEntire and Secretary Tim Golden, who were both recently elected at Thursday’s meeting.

The STB determines policy and governs GDOT. Board members serve staggered five-year terms and are selected by their corresponding U.S. congressional representative.
