The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office released details on what led to the arrest of a wanted  burglary suspect in a string of break-ins from late July and early August.

According to a release by the agency, the days-long search for Brandon Lee Threlkeld, 32 of Toccoa, led to the arrest of two others in connection to the burglaries. The investigation also led to the arrest of four individuals wanted for separate felony probation and parole violations.

The investigation began on July 24 when deputies responded to a residence on Shady Lane in Toccoa for a suspected burglary. While at the residence, deputies met with a woman who told authorities she had come to check on the home of a recently deceased family member. The woman reportedly observed signs of a break-in on the property, as well as missing firearms, jewelry and identifying documents belonging to the family member.

During an initial forensic investigation, authorities obtained evidence allegedly linking Threlkeld to the crime. Original warrants were then issued for Threlkeld’s arrest for Burglary in the 1st Degree and Criminal Trespass.

Later, on Aug. 4, investigators arrested Sydnie Alexander, 26 of Toccoa, after responding to a call of a suspicious person on Phillips Road where she was believed to be attempting to burglarize a building on private property. She was arrested and remained in the Stephens County jail on a $75,000 bond. She was also found to be involved in a burglary on Lake Louise Road between Saturday, Aug. 2, and Monday, Aug. 4. Alexander faces charges of:

Investigators later discovered that Threlkeld was allegedly at the residence on Phillips Road with Alexander at the time of the incident. Threlkeld reportedly evaded arrest several times and was able to flee from law enforcement into neighboring counties.

On Aug, 6, The SCSO Crime Suppression Unit attempted to serve a warrant at a home on Davis Avenue in Toccoa that the suspect was believed to be hiding at. During the warrant service, investigators obtained information that Courtney Bohannon, 52 of Toccoa, was supposedly assisting Threlkeld in eluding law enforcement.

Bohannon was arrested and transported to the Stephens County Jail, where she remained on a felony charge for Tampering with Evidence as of last report.

During the warrant search at the Davis Avenue residence, deputies also discovered four suspects who had active warrants for felony probation and parole violations.
Nichole Mote, 35 of Toccoa; Austin Goggans, 24 of Toccoa; William Smith, 34 of Toccoa; and Stephen Maye, 41 of Toccoa; were all arrested and taken to the Stephens County Jail from the scene.

Threlkeld was arrested on Aug. 9 after SCSO deputies conducted a traffic stop on a Toyota Camry near the intersection of Big A Road and Rock Creek Road and located him inside the vehicle.

Upon further investigation, investigators said they were able to connect Threlkeld to the burglary on Lake Louise Road. In addition to the original warrants, Threlkeld was charged with:
“We would like to thank our partners with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) Task Force, Toccoa Police Department officers, Georgia State Patrol Post 7 Troopers, and Georgia Department of Natural Resources Game Wardens for their assistance during this investigation,” the agency said in a social media post.

The case remains active and the investigation is ongoing.
