A Gainesville driver faces charges and two passengers sustain minor injuries following an early morning, overturned vehicle wreck that knocked out a traffic signal and utility pole on Monday.
A press release from Gainesville Police Department's Lieutenant Kevin Holbrook late Monday morning said they were called to Atlanta Highway near Industrial Boulevard at around 1:30 a.m. for a single vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers found a single wreck involving a Toyota Rav 4 which left the roadway and struck a utility pole.
Police addd that it appears speed and alcohol may have been a factor with the driver, identified as 24-year old Ricardo Jose Marquez of Gainesville. Marquez was arrested for DUI at the crash scene. Two passengers inside the vehicle were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville for treatment to minor injuries.
Hall County Sheriff's deputies were diverting traffic away from the crash scene along Atlanta Highway after 2:00 a.m. between Industrial Boulevard and Memorial Park Drive through at least 8:00 a.m.
Utility pole and traffic signal repairs were ongoing with Georgia Power crews throught the morning hours, with no word from Georgia Power authorities on when the repairs would be completed.
