Gwinnett County is investing in multiple transportation projects aimed at improving safety and reducing congestion in the area.
The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved during its Aug.5 meeting a project that would relocate Stanley Road at Winder Highway and add dedicated turn lanes at the intersection. The project is a part of the Georgia Department of Transportation’s long-term plan to Convert State Route 316 into a freeway.
The board approved two items related to the project. The first establishes the County’s partnership with GDOT and outlines requirements for the construction phase. The second awards the $5.1 million construction contract to ER Snell Contractor, Inc. The project is funded jointly by GDOT and the 2017 SPLOST program.
The county will also replace the bridge over Drowning Creek on Drowning Creek Road. Georgia Bridge and Concrete, LLC will lead both engineering and construction for the new bridge, which will replace the existing structure built in 1964. The project is funded through the 2023 SPLOST program.
Additionally, the county plans to make significant upgrades to the intersection of Steve Reynolds Boulevard. According to a release, Improvements include a third southbound through lane at Satellite Boulevard, dual northbound left turn lanes at Venture Drive, a northbound right turn lane at Shackleford Road and triple southbound left turn lanes at Club Drive.
Traffic signal upgrades will also occur in the area. The board awarded the $1 million construction contract to Azimuth Contractors, LLC. The project is also funded through the 2023 SPLOST program.
