Police and family members are now offering a total of $11,000 in rewards as they continue to look for information on who killed a man in downtown Athens in 2016.

A social media post by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department Tuesday said authorities are still looking for the suspect who shot and killed Daniel Macias, age 28 of Athens, in the area of Hancock Avenue and Jackson Street in the early morning hours of August 13, 2016.

Police say Macias was seen on surveillance video encountering a person, who ultimately shot and killed him. A person of interest was also seen on surveillance video walking along Hancock Avenue in front of the courthouse parking deck just minutes before the shooting.

Crime Stoppers is reportedly offering a $1,000 reward, while the Matias family is offering up to a $10,000 reward in exchange for information leading to the arrest or conviction of the killer. Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Athens-Clarke County Police detectives by calling 762-400-7431 or 762-400-7101. Those with information can also contact Crime Stoppers at 706-705-4775.
