FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Cherokee Bluff, the Class 3A state runner-up last season, opened its 2025 campaign in dominating fashion on Thursday, routing Class 6A Peachtree Ridge 11-3 in five innings at home.
But the Lady Bears had to battle from behind as Peachtree Ridge plated a pair of quick runs in the top of the first. The Bluff offense answered in a big way, scoring in all but one inning.
The Lady Bears tied it up with two runs in the first and took the lead for good with three more in the second. Peachtree Ridge closed to within 5-3 in the third but Bluff extended the lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the third and put it away with four in the fifth.
Quinn Kiewert had three hits, including a home run to go with two doubles, and drove in two runs to help pace a 12-hit attack for the Lady Bears. Payton Davis also had three hits and two RBI and Claire Carlson had two hits for Bluff.
Davis got the win for Bluff, surrendering three runs on three hits and striking out four in four innings. Jaycee Archer pitched a scoreless fifth.
Cherokee Bluff next will play host to Mill Creek, who finished third in Class 6A in 2024, on Wednesday.
