Lumpkin County officials are warning the loved ones of recently arrested individuals about scam phone calls.
The Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office said scammers may demand payment for an ankle monitor or bail over the phone. They advise against sending money or disclosing personal information.
Law enforcement or jail officials will never call and ask for money.
If payment is required, a representative will meet you in person at the jail to discuss your options.
Those who receive a suspicious call should hang up and call authorities.
