The Pendergrass Police Department came together on Monday to honor the life of Patrolman Chris Ruse.
Ruse died in the line of duty on the night of Dec. 29, 2004 on U.S. 129.
Ruse was pursuing a vehicle that overturned, and when Ruse approached the vehicle he was met with gunfire.
He passed away later that night at Northeast Georgia Medical Center while the shooter was brought to justice, pleading guilty to murder and receiving a life sentence without parole.
A portion of U.S. 129 was dedicated in his honor on Monday.
“This stretch of road now bears his name as a permanent reminder of his sacrifice, bravery, and the life he lived in service to others,” the department said in a Facebook post. “We extend our deepest gratitude to Georgia House Representative Emory Dunahoo Jr. for his time, commitment, and efforts in making this road dedication a reality.”
