Forsyth County Firefighters rescued a young girl from the top of a 60-foot tree on Thursday.

Forsyth County Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers said crews were called to the home off of Old Atlanta Road in South Forsyth by the girl's parents just after 5:00 p.m.

"She was just a young child who loves to be outside, enjoying her summer...she enjoys climbing trees," Shivers said. "She climbed up to the very top of it and was just enjoying the view."

Shivers said strong winds started to frighten the girl, who then called for her parents.

"We dispatched a ladder truck to the incident," Shivers said. "The ladder truck was able to reach her, firefighters went up the ladder to the very top of the tree and were able to pluck her out of that and safely get her down the ladder to the ground."

Shivers said the girl was not injured in the incident. He said while the fire department rescues animals from trees fairly reguarly, he said it's rare to see a child stuck in a tree.

"I've worked here 27 years and I've never recalled us responding to a child stuck in a tree," Shivers said. "Plenty of cats and a few other pets over the years...but to actually pick a child up out of the top of a tree is unusual."
