Habersham County Emergency Services responded to a structure fire over the weekend in Clarksville on Saturday.

A report from Habersham County Emergency Services states that HCES, Clarkesville Fire Department, and Lee Arendale Correctional Institute responded at 10:12 p.m. on Saturday to reports of a commercial building on fire on the 500 block of Plantation Drive.

Upon arrival, units were able to contain the flames and clear the area. The building was fully involved in the flames and had collapsed into itself.

HCES reports that early Sunday morning, the first responders were able to extinguish the flames. A majority of the units from the 3 agencies were then able to leave the scene, while those who remained monitored “hotspots” with fire engines on site, which could grow again into a fire

The units were rotated out later that morning and will continue to rotate shifts monitoring the scene for the next few days.

The building was not residential and did not result in any injuries. At the time of its destruction, it was being used as storage by a local family.
