SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Spencer Ralston had one of his best rounds as a pro on Friday, firing a 7-under par 65 in the second round of the Price Cutter Charity Championship.
The blistering round put the Gainesville native and former University of Georgia standout in a tie for seventh with an 11-under par 133 for the tournament. However, there were still more than a dozen players out on the course.
Beginning on the back nine, he started the day one shot off the cutline at 4-under par and sat at even par for the round after a bogey at the Par 3 13th. But from there, he caught fire.
Ralston birdied the Par 17th to get to the cutline and then chewed up the final nine holes. He converted five birdie putts, and closed out the round with a chip in for birdie on the Par 4 9th.
He said he has been close of late and feels healthy after a frecent injury.
"I have been working hard the last few months on my game, just haven’t seen the results I had hoped for but felt like I’ve been close," Ralston said after Friday's round. "I felt like I was starting to play some good golf in the late spring/early summer but had an injury a little over a month ago that set me back a few weeks so it’s nice to put a few rounds together to start off this week Hopefully I continue to build on them over the weekend."
He will still have some work to do to capture his first Korn Ferry tournament win, however. Chandler Blanchet of Gainesville, Fla., leads the tournament at 20-under par after another round of 10-under 62 on Friday.
But Ralston, who jumped 41 spots on the leaderboard, finished his day just four shots back of second place Neal Shipley, who carded a a 6-under 66 for a 15-under tournament total.
