Hall County commissioners voted Thursday evening to place a special purpose local option sales tax on the November 4 ballot.
Hall County has had an active SPLOST program since 1985, with the most recent one being approved by voters in 2019. The proposed upcoming SPLOST would be SPLOST IX.
A SPLOST is an optional 1 percent sales tax used to fund certain capital projects. If approved, it would last for six years.
Hall County Government officials issued a statement Thursday outlining what projects would be funded by SPLOST IX, if approved:
- Expansion of the county judicial complex
- Phase II of the Spout Springs Road widening project
- Intersection improvements, specifically along Joe Chandler Road, McEver Road, Mount Vernon Road
- Various road resurfacing projects
- Extension of the Highlands to Islands Trail System
- Construction of a new Hall County Sheriff's Office Training Center
- Vehicle and equipment replacements for the sheriff's office
- Relocation and/or construction of a new fire station
- Ambulance replacements
- 911 system upgrades
The county also said an estimated $95 million would be distributed to the nine municipalities in the county, with the amount designated for each being based on population density. Those nine municipalities have approved an intergovernmental agreement for the SPLOST IX program.
The Hall County Board of Elections will formally vote on whether or not to place the referendum on the November 4 ballot at its meeting on Tuesday, July 15.
