Tyler Crawford has announced his candidacy for the District 3 seat on the Hall County Board of Commissioners.
Crawford, a 39-year-old machine tool manufacturer who lives in Murrayville, announced Thursday that he will run as a Republican for the seat, which is currently held by Gregg Poole. Poole announced his plans to run for 9th District U.S. Congress last week.
Crawford said his recent experience with trying to open his own shop in Hall County while relocating his family from Buford ultimately led to his decision to run for county commission.
"I think I've stopped at every single place that you can stop on the third floor (of the Hall County Government Center.) There's a lot of opportunity there to make things better," Crawford said. "I think we don't do a great job of advocating for people that haven't done this kind of stuff before. The developers almost seem like they have a fast-pass lane through planning and zoning, and the generic guy off the street has to battle for everything thing you want to do. I don't think our priorities are right in a lot of places."
Crawford was born in California but moved to Georgia as a child and spent much of his life in Cobb County. He attended Kennesaw State University and Lanier Technical College before moving to the Buford area and then ultimately to Murrayville.
Crawford said since his experience with county planners, he has made an effort to become a regular at commission meetings. He said, if elected, his goal would be to keep the public's interests in mind in decision-making.
"There seems to be a lot of opportunity to put the customer first, put the taxpayer first, put the public first," Crawford said. "I feel very strongly about helping people in that capacity, and the opportunity is there for someone to step up and do a great job."
Crawford will run in the 2026 Republican primary. He will face at least one opponent in former county commissioner Steve Gailey, who also announced his candidacy on Thursday. No Democrat has publicly announced candidacy for the seat so far.
