Two men were arrested on Wednesday for methamphetamine trafficking and other drug charges in a month-long investigation.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said investigators arrested Antonio Gonzales, 38, of Gainesville, and Pedro Leonel Cortez, 41, who has a Gainesville address but is a Mexico native.

HCSO drug agents led an undercover meth purchase with one of the suspects.

After the transaction, drug agents told patrol deputies, who conducted a traffic stop of the suspect on Atlanta Highway.

During the traffic stop, agents seized 589 grams of meth with an estimated street value $44,175.

Cortez was charged with sale of methamphetamine (undercover sale), possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and trafficking in methamphetamine. Cortez was also placed under an immigration detainer.

Gonzalez was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and trafficking in methamphetamine.

Gonzalez was also charged with probation violation and failing to properly register an address change under his sex offender status.

Both suspects are being held in the Hall County Jail with no bond.
